About the Role


The Traffic & Flood Risk Management Service area seeks to deliver an excellent customer focused service in an efficient, effective, and economic manner, with specific focus of the Council's role as the Highway Authority whilst adhering to Corporate, Departmental and Government priorities.


The Principal Officer's primary purpose is to support the Technical Lead and Service Manager in the leadership and management of a multi discipline team to effectively manage, develop and deliver the highway and flooding duties of the City Council.

The role is required to manage the investigation of flooding matters, to evaluate options that address and resolve issues and develop assets vital to the continued commercial footing of the Service Area.


We are looking for a proactive and efficient individual, who can put citizens and customers first and work with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

They must also be organised and have excellent communication skills to ensure that the outputs of the service area are maintained to professional standards.


  • To inform the development of planning policy related to flood risk and mitigation
  • To commission and manage flood risk studies and mitigation strategies in partnership with other agencies and local authorities.
  • To help deliver and maintain the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy in line with the national strategy and local priorities.
  • To liaise with Emergency Planners and the LRF, to ensure an appropriate flood incident management plan and contribute to the effective management of an emergency flooding event.
  • To review the Surface Water Management Plan developed for Nottingham City Council, ensuring that the action plan is implemented by all key partners within the resources available
