An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA).

Maternity is at the heart of positive change and improvement in the service both for the benefit of service users as well as staff.


  • The Professional Midwifery Advocate role is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through leading the implementation and embedding of the AEQUIP model (Advocating for education and Quality Improvement)
  • This role has been developed to replace the role of the supervisor of midwives that was deselected in April 2017 due to legislative change. A-EQUIP provides a framework for continuous improvement process that builds upon personal and professional resilience, enhances quality of care for women and supports preparedness for midwives in appraisal and professional revalidation
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake 0.2 WTE per week as clinical work within the clinical environment.
