ABOUT THE ROLE

Overview

ESTEEM works with young adults aged 14-26 years to run Wellbeing, Social, Mentoring and Volunteering opportunities, with a youth-lead and asset-based approach.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a charity that is passionate about giving young adults the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole.

As part of ESTEEMs counselling service you will be providing counselling to young adults who are engaged with ESTEEM services, aged 14-26.

Based at The Old School House, the ESTEEM Counsellor will be required to work with the Wellbeing Manager and Clinical Supervisor to support the young adults accessing support via the wellbeing service and mental health pathways

As a counsellor, you'll need to:

  • Work closely with the Wellbeing Manager and wider team to ensure high quality delivery of service
  • Deliver 11 counselling sessions to young people waiting for counselling support within ESTEEM
  • Fully comprehend and work within ESTEEMs Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures at all times and understand how this fits with the Risk Management Protocol of the wider organisation
  • Work within the framework of a timelimited therapeutic model (up to 24 sessions with periodic reviews)
  • Work within the BACP Ethical Framework and to uphold the clinical standards that are expected from a service that adheres to this
  • Attend regular clinical supervision with the assigned clinical supervisor
  • Not take ESTEEM client work to any other clinical supervisor
  • Report back to the Wellbeing Manager on a regular basis on the progress of the provision, and to raise any areas of service excellence or concern
  • Establish a strong working relationship with ESTEEM colleagues
  • Be flexible to respond to the evidenced needs of young adults by delivering services that are not restricted to a 9am5pm timetable that could include twilight/early evening appointments
  • Actively promote participation and for all young adults to be offered the opportunity to have a voice, get involved and to influence operational and strategic direction within ESTEEM
  • Use UPSHOT for recording interventions and any work relevant to the young adults in an appropriate, professional and diligent manner.
  • Contribute to and be part of the ESTEEMS Counselling Service team and attend line management meetings, team meetings and CPD events as required.
  • Work constructively as part of a team and be involved in the development of good practice.
  • Carry out, from time to time, any other appropriate duties in line with capabilities as directed by the line manager to support and promote the work of the project.
  • Work within all ESTEEMS policies and procedures at all times and to abide by the Code of Conduct.
  • Attend ESTEEM mandatory training and abide by our policies and procedures on Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity.
  • Attend appropriate continuing professional development and training events and be committed to team events.
  • ESTEEM values counsellor hours and with this in mind we would encourage a maximum of 20 hours of client contact time per week (in & out of ESTEEM commitments), as recommended by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • Take responsibility for your own wellbeing as essential to sustaining good counselling practice
