Reporting to:
The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer's responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).


A Direct Payments client in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a skilled and experienced Personal Assistant to support them with their support needs.


This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently.


The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.

They should be able to support the client to make their own decisions around their care needs and encourage them to maintain their independence.


The main duties to be included within this role are:

  • Develop trusting, supportive, companionship with the person.
  • Be emotionally aware and supportive towards the persons needs on a day by day basis.
  • Spend time getting to know the persons specific needs in order to support effectively.
  • Work closely with the person to build an active social life.
  • Motivate the person to independently tend to their own selfcare activities like bathing, dressing and nutrition.
  • Support the person to participate in creative activities such as photography, creative writing and digital art.
  • Encourage the person to take part in meaningful tasks around the home such as cooking and looking after the family pets.
  • Support the employer to attend activities of interest, like short walks and a regular trips to community groups.
  • Supporting the person to maintain and develop a variety of independent living skills such as budgeting.
  • Keep a record of hours/miles and activities, reporting anything important about the persons wellbeing to their family.
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance

The client is looking for a personal assistant that fits the following person specification:

  • Excellent team player skills with excellent communication skills
  • Sensitivity towards the person they are supporting
  • Must be proactive and motivated to meet the requirements of the persons support plan.
  • Organisation and the ability to plan ahead is essential.
  • Must be able to communicate with the person's supporters/family members daily.
  • Car owner/driver
  • Prior experience desirable, but not essential for the right candidtae.
  • Caring and patient
  • Responsible and honest
  • Has good local knowledge
  • Good timekeeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
  • Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship

Other Requirements:

A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.

You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.


Benefits:

5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)

Sick pay at SSP rate

Training provided, if required.
