An exciting opportunity to join an Award-Winning company on a
permanent basis in a pivotal role across all provisions (Study Programme, Traineeships, Bootcamps, Adult Education and Apprenticeships) reporting to the Director of Research, Innovation and Development.


Hours:
Full-time (37.5 hours per week, normal hours 8:30am - 17:00 Mon to Fri)


Location:
Hybrid, working in Centres


Travel:
Essential - a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required


Salary:
£33,000 to £37,000 per annum


Supporting Learners with special educational needs whilst working closely with Curriculum/Programme Leads and other senior colleagues, the SENDCO will manage the provision across all Skills Training UK programmes and provide support to other tutors and trainers.


The SENDCO will be responsible for designing and delivering interventions with Learners in the classroom and implementing Skills Training UK's SEN strategy.

There will also be the requirement to have some classroom teaching duties.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:


  • Develop and oversee the implementation of Skills Training UK's SEN strategy and policy.
  • Carry out assessments of Learners with SEN to identify needs and monitor progress including observations in the classroom and meeting with tutors and parents/carers.
  • Assess prospective Learners with EHCPs (Education and Health Care Plan) and their needs to make recommendations on the suitability of provision for individual Learners.
  • Liaise with Local Authorities to gain access to existing EHCP plans for new Learners.
  • Work with Tutors, the Centre Principals, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans inline with Education and Health Plans.
  • Provide regular updates on learner progress through written reports and meetings with parents.
  • Coordinate and participate in EHCP review meetings.
  • Make referrals and liaise with professional bodies outside of Skills Training UK this could include psychologists, health and social care providers etc.
  • Coordinate with the Business Improvement Consultants to ensure that special access arrangements are applied for and put in place for SEN learners taking exams.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to Tutors on supporting Learners with SEN
  • Support Tutors to differentiate learning and activities for Learners with SEN
  • Ensure information regarding learners with SEN is recorded accurately and in a timely manner on S
  • Analyse STUK, local and national data and develop appropriate strategies and interventions to ensure progress of SEN Learners
  • Manage the work of Teaching Assistants to improve Learner progress and attainment
  • Keep up to date with national and local policies related to SEN and cascade information to colleagues.

  • Influencing and negotiation skills to influence STUK strategy and policy, secure sufficient internal resources, and secure the necessary support and funding from external agencies/Local Authorities.
  • Leadership skills to inspire and motivate tutors, model good practice, and develop an overall STUK commitment to supporting Learners with SEN
  • Interpersonal skills for building relationships with parents/carers, Centre Principals, Tutors and external professionals
  • Written communication skills for writing learning and support plans, reports on Learner progress, and training and guidance for staff
  • Organisation and timemanagement skills needed for prioritising and balancing a busy and varied workload
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence, for recognising and responding sensitively to, the needs of Learners and parents/carers
  • Analytical and problemsolving skills necessary for analysing STUK, local and national data and developing appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Qualified teacher with QTS gained in England or Wales.
  • Recognised qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (eg. NASENCO).
