  • The Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Mechanical Technical Advisor role is vital to the effective and efficient running of our flood defence assets in and around London. You will be joining a team helping with the management and delivery of mechanical maintenance and conducting operations across our critical assets working in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to manage the impacts of climate change and manage the assets that protect Central London from flooding.
  • As part of the Thames Barrier and Associated Gates (TBAG) Engineering Team, you will report to the Mechanical Team Leader and be part of the Thames Tidal Defences (TTD) MEICA team.
  • Responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and organising maintenance work and repairs through the sites CMMS.
  • Manage and plan monitoring and analysis across equipment and machinery.
  • Organise and provide training to staff on equipment and operations across TTD.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other TTD engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with our integrated delivery team to help deliver large capital projects.
  • Taking a TTD operational role during trials/flood defence operations.
  • Taking a TTD Mechanical Senior Authorised Person (SAP) role.
  • Procurement of stores stock and management/procurement of essential spares and consumables.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

  • Joining our friendly and essential London MEICA team you will report to the Mechanical Team Leader, working alongside an experienced team to conduct operations and planned / reactive maintenance ensuring the reliability of equipment and machinery across Thames Tidal Defences assets.
Experience/skills required

  • Can work safely and manage the safety of others.
  • Can create and review risk assessments and method statements.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working with mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Experienced with working within and implementing new Standards, Regulations and Approved Codes of Practice.
  • Experience managing the work of others
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft programs.

  • The role will be based in London, with additional allowances per annum detailed below:
  • Plus £3,889p.a. Inner London Weighting
  • Plus £3,856p.a. approximately, calculated at £148.34 per week covering 1 week in 2 over 52 weeks (when trained and competent)
  • Plus £3,000p.a. Standby Allowance (when trained and competent)
