Decontamination Unit Supervisor Band Hrs - CIC

Participates in the provision of a specialised decontamination service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.

Supervises and supports a team of Decontamination Technicians to ensure they are able to fulfil their role to provide a high quality and timely service to all users.

Supports team with approval of annual leave and undertaking their annual appraisals and wellbeing discussions.


Staff work on a 4 shift 4 weekly rota which offers generous periods of time off due to the shift system.

The role does include working night shifts, weekends, late shifts and day shifts.

Works within Decontamination Department Quality Management System providing specialist decontamination service of reusable Medical Devices and Flexible Endoscopes.

Directs the reprocessing of reusable medical devices and flexible endoscopes in accordance with manufacturers instructions.

Supervises, organises and allocates work and trains less experienced / qualified staff members.

Expected to use knowledge and skills when making decisions with regard to non-conforming work in the department.

Record routing testing of decontamination equipment.

Monitor stocks of raw materials as requested taking appropriate action of any deficiencies.

Meet demands of departments workload ensuring high standards are maintained.

Undertake training to enable support of the Department QMS by undertaking audits and understanding of decontamination machines. maintaining a portfolio of evidence of training and CPD activities.

Undertake duties as required consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of service.

Attend and actively participate in Department meetings.

Supervise and allocate duties to staff members.

Maintain high standards of department safety, ensuring the health, safety and welfare of self and others.
