About the Role:


Lister Medical Centre is recruiting for a prescribing & recalls administrator to process requests for repeat prescriptions and provide an safe, efficient system of reauthorisation of repeat medication.

The post-holder will liaise with all relevant parties, including direct contact with patients and other health care professionals regarding medication queries.

This role also involves ensuring all recall letters and blood tests are sent to patients for long term conditions.


Responsibilities:


  • Process repeat prescriptions on a daily basis.
  • Raise blood request forms as appropriate, ensuring compliance with the practice protocol.
  • Ensure all current medications have relevant and current authorisations.
  • Reauthorise repeat prescriptions, where necessary, in line with the practice protocol.
  • Be the main point of contact for all prescription queries, from a range of healthcare professionals including: GPs, nurses, community pharmacists and nursing home staff, as well as reception and administration staff at the practice, and patients.
  • Ensure that expiry dates on repeat prescriptions are harmonised for each patient.
  • Liaise with the clinical pharmacist to monitor specific drugs for overuse, reporting findings to the relevant GP.
  • Communicate with new doctors in medication review protocols and practice formulary choices.
  • Update existing doctors in new protocol developments.
  • To advise the clinical pharmacist and GPs when patient medication reviews are required.
  • To attend medicine management meetings, and other practice meetings, when requested to do so.
  • To generate patient recall letters for smear tests, as required.
  • To complete patient recall letters if required, and cover the recall clerk during annual leave and absences.

The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • Computer literacy
  • ability to produce a range of documents, searches Windows WP package, Excel spread sheet and database functions.
  • Interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to achieve deadlines.
  • Ability to investigate complex queries and anomalies when required.
  • Ability to monitor and process accurate data.

Lister Medical Centre is a friendly, supportive, democratic, well organised and enthusiastic GMS Practice, dedicated to providing traditional, family-orientated general practice.

We are based at a new, purpose-built, single site health centre in Harlow.


We have approximately 20,000 patients, 6 partners, 2 salaried GPs, a large nursing support team and a vast array of administrative staff.

We are a training practice as well as a teaching practice for Cambridge and Barts students. We are also a research practice.
We are consistent high achievement in all QOF and Enhanced Services areas. Our innovative team structure means that our GPs have individual patient lists (around 2,500 per FTE GP). We operate the SystmOne computer system. We are active members of local GP federation and CCG.

Lister Medical Centre has easy access to the M11 and M25.

We are close to London and Stansted as well as the attractive Essex and Hertfordshire countryside and their excellent schools.
