Description

You will provide support to the Senior Systems Engineer part of the IT Services Support Team, working towards the successful implementations and improvement of the ICT equipment and systems within the organisation and associated partners.


IT Systems Engineer Key Duties::


  • Provide innovative bespoke solutions for complex requirements using available IT resources and skills, e.g. PowerShell scripts, programming, software utilities, specialist hardware etc
  • Support the technicians with permanent fixes for repeat problems through automation or documented procedures.
  • Facilitate the roll out of new computers via deployment technologies such as System Center Configuration Manager and Apple Deploy Studio.
  • Be able to swap out and make good failed network equipment at different locations (working at height) ensuring the replacement is correctly programmed, secure and documented.
  • Write up clear and concise documentation with diagrams where necessary to facilitate the cascade of knowledge within the team.
  • Monitor and facilitate the routine bulk installation and upgrading of software on client computers within the network.
  • Maintain the backup systems ensuring successful backups are taking place and report problems to the Senior Systems Engineer where necessary.
  • Perform patching on servers and software with a potential for out of ours work.
  • Work to a defined service level agreement and respond to incidents and change requests with efficiency ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Advise the Senior Systems Engineer on upcoming technologies, threats, vulnerabilities and software.
  • Undertake any other duties within the spirit of the job description and commensurate with the grading of the post.

IT Systems Engineer Requirements:
Essential

  • Experience of computer hardware; PCs, Laptops, Servers, Printers, MFDs, Networking equipment, Wi-Fi, cabling and projection equipment.
  • A relevant computing qualification or experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of managing Microsoft Server systems; Windows Server 2012r2+, System Center 2012r2+ and Active Directory.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads when working to a SLA unsupervised.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with mixed skill level users.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • A willingness to work in different places at various times at short notice.
  • A level of fitness that enables the use of ladders to work at height.
  • Hold a current clean driving licence and access to own transport
  • An understanding of 'Safeguarding' and its importance within the College
  • An understanding of equal opportunities and its importance to the College
Desirable

  • An understanding of networking and routing protocols and the ability to program equipment through command line interface. Vendors in use are Cisco, HP, Netgear, Extreme Networks and Dell. Administrative skills with Microsoft 365/Office 365 Cloud systemsand associated platforms, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive etc
  • Experience with script/program creation in PowerShell, Batch files, C#, VB, python or AutoIT
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications, Office, Project, Visio, Visual Studio etc
  • Knowledge of PHP, Apache, IIS and MySQL.
  • Exposure to Mac OS systems; OSX Server working with Open Directory. Experience of an ITIL compliant helpdesk system for ticket and change management duties.
  • Be prepared to undertake first aid training
