We are looking for a highly motivated Recovery Support worker who will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure positive outcomes for clients who have experienced a first episode of psychosis.

The service provides evidence-based interventions following the NICE guidelines for psychosis.

The successful applicant will be joining a dynamic team working closely with care coordinators and other professionals in the team including psychiatrists, psychologists, OTs, nursing staff and employment specialists and liaising with outside agencies and colleagues from other Trust departments.


Wandsworth Early Intervention in Psychosis is a community team based at Springfield Hospital seeing clients and their carers and significant others at home or in community facing locations as well as in the outpatient's department at Trinity Building in Springfield.

We have an assertive outreach approach with the intention of enabling our clients to identify their recovery goals and reduce the likelihood of another episode of psychosis, focussing on the strengths and assets of the clients, working in partnership to achieve full recovery where possible.

As Recovery Support worker you will work with mental health service users, their carers' and other agencies to:

  • Work in conjunction with team members of all disciplines to provide a seamless, safe and comprehensive Service.
  • Assist in supporting early intervention with primary care, promote selfmanagement through the 'Wellness Plan' for serviceusers on the Serious Mental Illness (SMI) register, and provide greater integration with community support services.
  • Provide regular and effective mental health /physical health reviews to SMI serviceusers.
  • Help with the improvement of pathways between primary and secondary care (and viceversa) to ensure that they are a key element of the service.
  • Champion the Trust values within the team
  • Work at all times to promote the safety and the wellbeing of service users and their families/carers.
  • Build trusting and collaborative relationships with service users
  • Understand what is important to the service user in their life
  • Help and support the service user to develop and set goals with what is important to them
  • Help them to feel hopeful about the things that are important to them
  • Provide support and advice with being involved in their community for example housing, employment, education, welfare benefits, social life and peer networks
  • Help service users to feel in control of their life including selfmanagement tools and techniques

Working autonomously within the parameters of the role leading on

implementing the delivery of quality nursing care, contributing to the physical, psychological, social, recreational and spiritual care in a recovery-focused way through therapeutic engagement and activities, and taking steps to address any issues that arise.


Leading on and undertaking activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care are met - nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support.


Subject to the requirements of a particular service area and within the confines of the role, following trust policy/government regulatory guidance and upon successful completion of an approved programme of study and competency assessment signed by ward manager for the clinical area, the post-holder will administer routine medications.

Supporting and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the clinical area.
This will include coordinating and prioritising activities.

Demonstrating an enhanced understanding of Mental Health signs and
symptoms and an understanding of how these may present in practice
