We have an exciting opportunity administrative assistant post based at Colchester Hospital, Children's Department. This is a part-time post, 20 hours per week over 4 days.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person who is flexible and has excellent administration and communication skills.

The role requires you to work part of a secretarial team, in a busy and vibrant office.

Attention to detail is a must as are excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise and plan as well work without direct supervision.


Duties will include, dealing with telephone queries, managing, dealing with incoming and outgoing mail including admin and GP letters, as well as other various tasks requested.


You will be required to ensure that a high standard of administrative is consistently delivered by undertaking all required tasks and activities on a daily basis.

  • Dealing with incoming telephone calls from parents/relatives/GP/Other tertiary hospitals.
  • Passing on queries/messages to the relevant Medical PA/Support secretary using the correctlocal procedure and form. Scanning / Logging all relevant telephone contacts on to the Portalsystem.
  • To be able to communicate effectively with the rest of the team.
  • Be aware at all times the importance of maintaining confidentiality of information gained by you during the course of your duties including personal information relating to patients. You must treat all information in a discreet and confidential manner and keep it secure.
