Learning Support Assistant
Responsible to:
Learning Support Team Leader or Personal Tutor (SPL)
To liaise with:
Learning Support Manager, Head of Special Education, Vice Principal Student Experience, Welfare and Progression; Curriculum Managers, Teachers

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supporting Students
- To provide one to one and small group support for identified students in class during timetabled activities under the direction of the Learning Support Team Leader.
- To assist in creating a supportive learning environment for students which enables them to develop increased independence and learning skills.
- To support students to achieve their identified targets and to monitor and record student progress in accordance with direction from your line manager and in accordance with college quality assurance systems.
- To provide personal care for identified, individual students where appropriate, once trained and/or qualified. This can include supporting students with feeding, toileting and accessing physiotherapy amongst other personal care needs.
- To facilitate activities that improve the study skills or, where appropriate curriculum specific skill of students
- To supervise study zones and other college areas whilst students undertake college work activities
- To provide support where necessary for students on offsite events, work placements and trips
- To act as scribes/readers and invigilators where necessary for students with Exam Access Arrangements in examinations; and with course work.
- To support students as directed to access enrichment activities during the College day.
- To participate in student activities where appropriate including sports activities, performing arts events and otherdirected student activities
- To work closely with internal support services, teachers and managers regarding any concerns relating to student welfare, academic progress, personal development, social, emotional or behaviour concerns
- To implement individual support programmes for students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
- To assist in the general administration of the team, including the College's screening process and aspects relating to services and monitoring of students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Induction and recruitment
- To support the enrolment and transition process for students, including facilitating initial assessment processes.
- To support students during the induction process; assisting them to successfully transition to local students to the college.
- To assist in the identification of students who may benefit from additional support, referring these to Learning Support where appropriate.
General responsibilities
- To record all welfare and support interventions on college systems.
- To attend all relevant meetings and professional development activities.
- Take responsibility for health and safety issues in all areas of specific responsibility.
- Ensure the Trust's safeguarding, health and safety and equality policies are encompassed within all aspects of work.
- To understand the duties and responsibilities arising from College policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding and Child Protection.
- Participate in training and development as required.
- Comply with all Trust policies and procedures.
- Be committed to the promotion of fundamental British values as defined by the Prevent duty.
- To undertake any duties as defined by the college Principals and CEO.
Post terms and conditions:
Working Hours:
up to 33 hours per week, 37 weeks per year.
Salary:
Support Staff Spine Point 1- PRO RATA for Term Time.
Pension:
Staff in this role will be automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme

- Bachelor's (preferred)
Experience:
- Special education: 1 year (preferred)
