As a Union Relations Executive, you'll play an important role in supporting effective Union Relations across Retail as the primary contact for day-to-day interaction with our Retail Unions.

You will have responsibility for key union relation tasks ranging from preparing agendas & content for national meetings, managing the URT inbox, tracking colleague membership & liaising with teams across the SSC ensuring effective & prompt communication between Sainsbury's & the unions.

More about the role:


Support the Head of HR & Union Relations Specialist in delivering the Retail Union strategy, managing, and coordinating activities as required, including end to end project delivery.

Collate people data analysis, MI reporting and insights to support areas of focus in line with reviewing and developing the effectiveness of union related activities (i.e., membership weeks)


Collaboratively work with Centres of Excellence & SMEs across the business to ensure union implications are considered in change projects and included in engagement plans.

Ensure all aspects of union relations are inclusive and fully aligned to the corporate inclusion strategy.


Communicate daily with the retail unions, ensuring an effective flow of information, providing feedback & escalating matters when necessary to the Head of HR & Union Relations Specialist.


Give guidance to line managers in response to union related queries and provide up to date relevant information to all via the Trade Union page on OurSainsbury's.


Responsible for arranging national union meetings (including travel booking), ensuring effective sessions take place, and timely minutes, summary documents & actions are shared with all relevant stakeholders.


More about you:

Able to engage others, of all levels, in initiatives by being credible and persuasive.

The ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations.

Great at using data to tell a story to prioritise, influence outcomes and track progress.

A good understanding of general HR principles and practices, including in the following areas: ER, Policy & Reward

Experience of owning, tracking, and delivering small HR projects

Be a positive change ambassador.

Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
