Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Neurosurgery Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital to coordinate the activity and pathways of the Neuromodulation Service.

The post will play a key role in the development, management and co-ordination of the services ensuring robust lines of communication are in place throughout, ensuring the smooth running of the service and providing full administrative support to the clinical and management teams.

Neuromodulation involves the implantation of neuro-stimulator devices to control movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, or intractable pain.

This form of functional neurosurgery was pioneered in Oxford and we remain one of the largest centres in the UK by number of patients treated.

The surgical pathway is very complex and requires input from multiple professionals in several departments within and outside the OUHFT (Neurosurgeons, Neurologists, Pain Physicians, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Neuropsychologists, Pre-operative Assessment Nurses, Radiographers, and clinicians local to the patient's domicile).

Neuromodulation is highly specialised and only available in a few neuroscience centres in the UK.

The running of the surgical pathway is currently the shared responsibility of numerous different clinicians at OUH:
Neurosurgeons

  • Miss Stana Bojanic
  • Mr Alexander Green
  • Mr James FitzGerald
Neurologists

  • Dr Marko Bogdanovic
  • Dr Nagaraja Sarangmat
Neuropsychologist

  • Dr Simon Prangnell
Pain Specialist Nurses

  • Clare Watson
  • Anna Lacatena
  • James Taylor
  • Waclaw Batko
Movement Disorders Specialist Nurses

  • Beth Petric
  • Claire Fletcher
  • Laura Bacchini

The post holder will be expected to form strong working relationships with the Neuromodulation Clinical Team, Neuroscience Management Team, Clinical Leads and Corporate departments in order to ensure a seamless patient pathway from referral onwards.

They will liaise closely with patients, carers, GP's and other external Trusts as well as Medical Device industry representatives as required.
