Job Title:


TEACHING ASSISTANT:
One to One Support


Location:
Sherborne Prep School


Reporting to:
Head of Learning Support


Hours of Work:
Up to 32.5 hours per week to be reviewed termly. Hours of work are likely to be 8.30am - 3.30pm (less half an hour unpaid break daily). Days of work will be Monday to Friday. Some flexibility will be required on occasion to meet the demands of the post.


Salary:

Fixed term salary up to £16,885.57 per annum (£13.46 per hour) which includes payment for working 33 weeks of the year plus 5.6 weeks paid holiday.


Holidays:
The post holder will be able to take all SPS holidays but will be required to attend INSET. Holiday cannot be taken during Sherborne Preparatory School term time. You may be required to work Bank Holidays that fall during term time.


Pension:

The post-holder will be able to join the Sherborne School Support Staff Pension Scheme on the first day of the month after completion of two months service.

Where eligible the post-holder will be auto-enrolled into the Pension Scheme as per current legislation; further details may be obtained from the Head of Human Resources (Sherborne School Bursary).


Main Purpose:


To assist teachers in the learning and personal development of a child with complex needs and to support the individual child to enable them to engage in school life.


Duties - this is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the tasks that will be covered, and other tasks will be undertaken at the direction of the Head of Learning Support.

  • To work with a named child, as directed by the class teacher and/ or Head of Learning Support, to support learning across the whole curriculum.
  • To establish a supportive, caring and secure relationship with the child, promoting respect, selfesteem and a positive wholeschool ethos
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of the specific learning needs of the individual child and to respond to them effectively.
  • To assist the class teacher with planning, development and delivery of suitable programmes of work for the pupil
  • To support the class teachers to design, create and produce learning activities, materials and resources to support aspects of the curriculum or particular learning outcomes and to support and assist the child in using them.
  • To help, support and motivate the child, clarifying instructions, encouraging independent learning and behaviour and enabling learning targets and outcomes to be achieved.
  • To contribute to monitoring and recording the child's progress, maintaining records and providing relevant feedback to teachers.
  • To provide welfare support to the child, including administering First Aid (dependent on training) and attending to personal hygiene and identified medical needs as required.
  • As directed by the class teacher or Head of Learning Support, to liaise with outside agencies, where appropriate, in respect of the child.
  • To support playground / break time supervision
  • To accompany teachers and pupils on school trips.
  • To attend INSET days and staff meetings at the beginning of term.
  • To follow school policy, as laid out on the School Policy Manual, and behave with loyalty towards the school at all times.

Skills and qualifications required:


  • Experience of working with children aged between 47 years
  • An understanding of SEND and ways to support children with additional needs
