Purpose of the Role

  • To ensure the management team are aware of their responsibilities and targets relating to food safety and legality.
  • To lead or provide support to internal teams on specific projects that will improve product quality, safety & integrity.
  • To be the Food Safety Champion for our site under the guidance of our Technical Services Manager.

Main ResponsibilitiesMaintenance & implementation of HACCP plans and other product integrity risk-based programmes KPI reporting of food safety metrics. Maintenance of environmental testing schedules, such as swabbing programmes Publishing environmental results Supports and co-ordinates the investigating of micro non-conformances, e.g., listeria fails & product fails. Supports & co-ordinates process validations & re-validations. Work with our engineers on hygienic design of new and existing equipment. Support & co-ordinate CCP verification & validation. Conduct CCP Training. Complete Internal Audits. Manage the site calibration system. Horizon scanning for new & emerging issues. Be the go-to person for customer specific requirements relating to food safety & integrity.
Health, Safety & Environment ResponsibilitiesKnow your Health & Safety responsibilities, the site rules, and bring to the attention any issues that could affect your own, or others Health, Safety & Welfare. Work in a safe manner at all times Fully comply with all signage, notices, warning labels etc. Bring to the attention of your manager any hazards or unsafe conditions that may lead to injury, ill health, or damage. Participate fully in all Health, Safety & Environmental training sessions, and Safety Briefings / Toolbox Talks Not misuse or interfere with anything provided to ensure the safety of yourself and others. Ensure a good standard of housekeeping is maintained within the working environment to minimise the risk of injury to themselves or others. Correctly use and store the protective clothing and equipment provided. Report all injuries, near misses, and instances of ill health that occur to them at work and obtain the necessary First Aid Treatment. Help in the investigation of accidents in order to prevent recurrence. Set a good example of safe behaviour, particularly to new starters and young persons.
Food Safety & Quality ResponsibilitiesWorks to the required food safety & quality standards. Observes the site personal hygiene requirements. Ensure that correct procedures are being followed, paperwork is being filled out correctly and the quality of product is good. Ensuring working area is clean and tidy. Encourage good practice and challenge poor practice relating to CAYG (Clean as you go) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
ExperienceExperience of working in a food manufacturing environment Experience within the category or in technical compliance/services management is preferred. Multi-retailer exposure Computer skills & the ability to generate trend graphs - competent in Microsoft Excel & Word. Competent in the use of cloud-based systems Proficient in using databases and web-based IT platforms.
Key Skills & KnowledgeAbility to evaluate and interpret shelf-life results and other technical data. Be capable of identifying & solving root causes of complex problems. Have the ability to work under pressure, prioritise & manage a busy workflow. Demonstrate a flexible approach to your role responsibilities. Be a self-starter and have the ability to work unsupervised. Excellent verbal & written communications skills. To have worked in a similar role & demonstrates understanding of product legality, integrity, safety, and brand protection. Understands the product quality, safety & integrity challenges of a chilled food manufacturing, producing own label products for major retailers. In depth knowledge of microbiology and what makes products safe and of product integrity. Understands the procedures & documentation within a food safety management system. Understanding of how to review a process and make recommendations.
