About the team?


The stations team delivers a wide range of services to our customers, from being the first and last point of contact in a customer's journey, selling and checking tickets, making sure our customers know where to go, helping them to board and alight services, providing information and help to make the customer experience one to remember.

The team is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment, delivering the safe and efficient dispatch of trains and ensuring that all the services provided at the station deliver to the highest standards.

Working in a busy and challenging environment, the stations team work tirelessly to ensure a great customer experience is delivered, even when things go wrong.


About the job?


As a Gateline Assistant, you will assist in the operation of the ticket barriers at the station and provide information and assistance to customers.


Your main responsibilities will be:


  • Delivering a high level of service to customers
  • Assisting in the day to day operation of the automatic ticket barriers
  • Ensuring customer security and responding to customer enquiries
  • Inspecting and issuing tickets
  • Addressing customer needs in times of service disruption
  • Ensuring the professional appearance of the gateline area by clearing rubbish and making sure customer walkways are unobstructed

You'll need to be:


  • Able to deliver exceptional front line customer service
  • A Selfstarter with a can do attitude
  • Confident when decision making
  • Able to remain calm yet directive in a crisis
  • Able to work to strict procedures

As a minimum you will need to have:

  • The ability to work as part of a team or independently
  • Evidence of numerical ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A Full UK driving Licence would be considered advantageous but not compulsory

About the location?


The role is based in Newbury but you would be required to visit other Stations around the Kennet and Thames Valley.


Working pattern?


The role requires shift working including weekend and bank holidays, shift times are between 06:00 - 21:30, 7 days a week on a rolling roster pattern.


Additional information?
This is a temporary vacancy for 12 months.

Applicants are required to complete an online situational judgement test, and those applicants successfully short listed will be invited to a competency based interview which will be either face to face or online.

The successful applicant is required to meet the medical standards for this role including drugs and alcohol screen. A Basic DBS Certificate is also required.
