Job summary:
The Government Security Function (GSF) oversees the delivery of protective security across Government.
Our Mission is to enable Government to protect citizens and provide vital public services by understanding and managing security risks.
We set the strategy and standards for Government Security, monitor departmental security performance, manage pan-government security incidents, support the delivery of key security capabilities and lead the Government Security Profession.
The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Security Function, based within the Cabinet Office.GSG is transforming the Government's approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team, with a breadth of stakeholders including in other Government departments, the National Technical Authorities and the Agencies, and to contribute to delivering improved security across Government.
Job description:
This is an exciting opportunity to support the Government Security Group and the senior management team to continue the development of the function as part of the Cabinet Office.
The job-holder leads a small team that provides HR, Workforce Planning and Corporate Support services to the GSG organisation as well as other Business Management advice.
Key areas of responsibility
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Supporting the development of HR management information (MI) and the HR Dashboard, drawing data from various sources;
- Developing and delivering relevant resourcing reports for the directorates e.g. leavers and joiners; Workplace Attendance; and weekly team updates
- Providing advice and guidance on HR policy, procedures and processes;
- Working with Chiefs of Staff to support HR data accuracy across all aspects of the organisation;
- Managing Loans and Secondments; using MI to support workforce planning and succession planning;
- Leading and developing all direct reports (2 x HEO) to understand their career paths and have SMART objectives and development plans;
- Focal point for knowledge and information management, personal data protection, information assets, including supporting the development and review of corporate reports, including Data Protection; the GSG Business Continuity Plan; the Information Asset Register;
- Having oversight of and supporting the delivering of the GSG Induction session and associated induction materials;
- Developing the HR intranet site for GSG.

- Excellent customer service skills balanced with the confidence to remain firm under challenge.
- The ability to multitask effectively, prioritising workloads across competing demands whilst still ensuring a highquality service is provided.
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence stakeholders up to the most senior levels.
- Strong attention to detail, with an organised and programmatic approach to delivery.
Essential skills and experience:
- Developing MI and management of data.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with an ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with changing priorities.
- Experience of working in HR.
