This vacancy is only open to North Somerset Council employees and agency workers contracted to North Somerset Council.


We are seeking an individual with substantial experience in a similar role to lead on the development of transport policies and infrastructure for the next plan period.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role that will be key to helping North Somerset make progress towards becoming carbon net zero by 2030.


Responsibilities include:

  • Working with Planning Policy colleagues to develop new Local Plan
  • Joint Local Transport Plan
  • Transport Infrastructure Plan
  • 3 year capital programme development
  • Client complex transport schemes
  • Commission transport modelling for appraisal of schemes and development


Working in a small but ambitious unitary authority you will be working at all levels within the council including with Executive Members and senior managers.


You will be based in Strategic Transport Policy and Development and will be expected to manage other Transport Policy officers and give direction and support to achieve priorities.

This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon.

Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025.

Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood; This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.
