The Driver Training team has responsibility for the training and assessment of police officers and staff that are required to drive on behalf of the Force.

The Force has a number of driving authority levels, driving courses include three
- and four-week Standard, Advanced Initial car courses. Pursuit driving and the associated tac-tics also feature in the delivery programme. Most driving courses employ the use of emergency equipment afforded by legal exemptions.


The driver trainer role is to support all driver training activities, and enhance the performance of Nottinghamshire Police by ensuring that all learning and development is performance driven, responsive to business need and contributes to sustainable improvements in organisational performance.

All Driver Trainers and driving courses are College of Policing Approved Professional Practice compliant.

The Driver Training team are based at the Police and Fire JHQ Sherwood Lodge Arnold.

Within the joint headquarters there are newly built classroom facilities, gym, and a canteen providing drinks and hot food throughout office hours.


The Trainers work a flexi day shift Monday to Friday, with late shifts as required by the type of course delivered.

The annual leave entitlement is enhanced by the role having a flexible working arrangement.


Driver Trainers undertake CPD, driving different vehicles, acquiring educational and assessor skills, there is a mixture of skills and experience in the team.
