Working in conjunction with the Band 7 Lead Specialist Dietitian,plan and providea responsive and effective dietetic assessment and treatment forservice users under the care oftheOutpatient andDay Services ofthe specialist eating disorders service.


  • Developing appropriate dietetic pathways integrated into MDT pathways.
  • Evaluating the dietetics clinical service by setting appropriate standards, planning and collecting clinical and patient experience outcome data.
  • Assessing service users by interviewing the service user, and carers if appropriate.
  • Supervising the implementation of dietetic care plans by providing treatment personally, to individuals or groups, and by close collaboration with the eating disorders team.
  • Provide a high level of support and closely supervise Day Services users in planning, preparing and eating food, and role model normal, healthy eating for them.
  • When appropriate, working with carers and family members of service users to support the service user's progress at home.
  • Working as the sole therapist for a small number of individual service users. This will include liaison with GP and CMHTs to monitor and manage clinical risk, and to plan treatment programmes.
  • Providing effective education, information and support to service users learning to take responsibility for their nutritional health in the context of ambivalence and extreme anxiety. This may be in group or individual contact.
  • Taking part in discharge planning, leading on this process for some service users.
  • Maintaining a high level of awareness of safety in areas where there may be incidents that are difficult or challenging, and undertake training to ensure personal ability to maintain safety.


The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) Eating Disorders Service provides a catchment area service for residents covered by Lambeth, Southwark & Lewisham, Croydon, Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley (population approximately 2 million).

In addition, the service functions as a National referral centre.


SLAM Eating Disorders Service continues to expand, and to research and develop evidence-based models for the treatment of eating disorders.

Service protocols are continuously reviewed and adapted according to new understanding underpinned by research. It is home to the award

winning FREED project, PEACE pathway, and the radomised controlled multi-centre DAISIES trial.


Outpatient and Day services are delivered from the Maudsley Hospital, with an 18-bed inpatient unit currently based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital in Beckenham.

There are plans underway to transfer all services to the Maudsley site where a brand new, purpose designed Day services unit opened in April 2021.

This is a new post to provide additional dietetic cover for an expanding service.

  • Carry a complex caseload, using evidence based and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions
  • Organise and provide supervision and training for junior staff and students
  • Provide advice and information to the hospital food service provider, so that the needs of service users are met
  • Guide the MDT on the effective implementation of the Trust's nutrition screening and care planning programme
  • Support the service by providing information and training for colleagues
