Description
Manage the co-ordination of Acute Oncology Admissions through to the appropriate clinical review.

The role within the Acute Oncology Service requires the co-ordinator to collect important data relating to the patients journey and treatment management.

This information is then recorded into a cancer database, which is used to monitor the effectiveness of the Acute Oncology Service.

Liaise with clinical staff and medical secretaries across the Health Board to ensure the patients are helped along the most appropriate pathway.

Taking and distributing minutes as required.

Assist the Clinicians to record Patient Experience measures and produce action plans to improve the service where the patients experience measured is sub optimal.

To assist the Acute Oncology Service team to challenge the progress of patients journeys with all members of the cancer MDT and to actively seek and persuade clinical service providers to alter existing appointments (by prioritising cancer activity) to ensure a rapid and effective access to the appropriate cancer pathway is maintained.

Where personal intervention is unsuccessful, to identify through the escalation policy to the relevant Service Manager within Medicine any deviation from expected pathway to timely manner to allow corrective action to be achieved.

Ensure action plans are produced on behalf of the Acute Oncology Service Team where corrective actions or an area of service improvement has been identified.

Daily exposure to distressing and emotional circumstances through sensitive patient information and through audit of case notes and pathology reports.

Initiate the use of, and operate Video Conferencing Equipment within the Acute Oncology Service environment, and liaise with relevant personnel to ensure the maintenance and purchasing of specialist additional equipment.

Organise the management and collection of designated data items from medical case notes and other data sources and information systems.
