This post is based at West London Children's Healthcare at the St Mary's Hospital site, which is situated in the heart of Paddington, West London.

This means we are easy accessible to major transport routes and this prime location will allow you to visit the all the capital has to offer.

St Mary's Hospital have recently opened their new two-bedded High Consequence Infectious Disease facility for children and families.

We work jointly with other HCID centers in London with the aim to provide expert clinical care for children and families; and to provide specialist training for all paediatric staff.

Airborne HCID includes rare, highly contagious and potentially life threatening disease such as SARS, MERS, Avian Flu and Mpox. It is well recognised that staff managing such patients are at risk of illness and death from exposure.

As a result, national protocols have been developed with a focus on managing such patients in designated centres that are ready and fully trained in their management by carrying our regular fully immersive simulated preparedness exercises.

The post holder must have the ability to collaborate with other professionals from different areas in order to advise and develop strategies in infection control and prevention.


  • To be a professional role model, leading and coordinating PICU and Acute Paediatric education and/or practice development in highly contagious and potentially lifethreatening diseases.
  • To understand the training and education needs of staff at SMH PICU and the Acute Paediatric Wards who come into contact with such diseases.
  • To provide expert evidence based clinical bedside teaching and immersive simulated preparedness exercises to all levels of nursing allied health and medical staff.
  • Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the national protocols.
  • At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
  • To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for staff on PICU who nurses such patients.
  • Act as a key link with other members of the inservice education and/or practice development team(s) and external education institutions as required.
