Description

Youth Justice Education Officer

Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.**An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Youth Justice Education Officer at the Youth Justice & Targeted Prevention Service in Redbridge. This role has been re-configured following the publication of the HMIP Thematic Inspection on Education Training and Employment (ETE), to ensure the children in the youth justice cohort are able to access quality education provision and the necessary support to progress in education, training and employment. Research shows high aspiration and good education engagement reduces the risk of children entering the youth justice system while also supporting desistance.

You will be part of a multi-agency team working closely with education and training providers and Education & Inclusion colleagues to remove barriers and create solutions for children in the youth justice cohort to access and engage in education.

This will include working with colleagues within Connexions, Education Welfare, SEND, Virtual School, Admission and Behaviour & Inclusion teams as well as others.

You will be required to undertake face to face engagement with children and their families, advocate the needs of the child across a variety of platforms, deliver individual and group teaching and participate in the delivery of a wide range of YJS activities on both an individual and group work basis.

You will also contribute to the development and implementation of a range of effective solutions to youth crime.

You must have a passion for working with children and the ability to think creatively in responding to changing needs.

You will have excellent communication and assessment skills, the ability to motivate, encourage and inspire children to learn and engage in education.

This role also requires strong organisational skills; undertaking challenging work within tight deadlines, negotiation skills working collaboratively with partners and the ability to maintain up-to-date records in line with National and local Standards.

The nature of the role means that flexible hours are needed including occasional evening and weekend work.

We support our workers in their progression, affording opportunities to grow skill sets. Staff have regular supervision with their line manager and frequent professional development sessions. Redbridge Youth Justice & Targeted Prevention Service fully embraces Trauma Informed Practice in their engagement with children and families.

If you are interested in being part of a team delivering excellent services to young people in Redbridge, please apply.

Interview dates to be confirmed.
