Responsible to Technical and Site Management, the main objectives of the role are to develop and maintain the on-site QMS, upholding accreditations and complying with the current UK/EU food processing regulations, BRC Global Technical and customer standards.


With authority to:
1) Act as a member of the HACCP team, directly involved in HACCP implementation and review.

2) Carry out compliance activities, checking, investigating, responding, recording and reporting.

3) Make on the spot decisions about quality and HACCP non conformances and carry out corrective actions necessary to isolate non-conforming products.

4) Communicate all non-conformances to departmental supervisors and managers, documenting corrective actions taken.

5) Deliver on job quality assurance and hygiene training to members of staff.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To audit compliance against QMS, GMP and HACCP controls, raising all nonconformances against relevant standards with objective evidence.
  • Day to day management of the business QMS
  • Engage as a coordinating Member of the HACCP team.
  • Ensure the production environment and internal auditing standards are maintained to an audit ready standard by working closely and effectively with the department teams.
  • Assist Technical Manager in developing and implementing new policies and procedures.
  • Supporting Technical Manager during regulatory audits
  • Coordination of the internal audit program
  • Conduct regular audits of the manufacturing process against relevant internal audit schedule and address any actions.
  • Providing technical support and advice to the factory team in the event of customer visit or audit
  • Work closely with Technical Manager to develop appropriate training material which is compliant with BRC and company standards.
  • Assist in maintaining supplier approval database.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating raw material and final product specifications.
  • Investigating all supplier nonconformances and liaising with suppliers to receive corrective actions.
  • Assist Technical Manager in carrying out full investigations on specifications (micro and nutritional), complaints and incidents. Investigations may take the form of sampling, process reviews, traceability, or audits.
  • Ensure certificates of analysis are received for all relevant products and nonconformances reported.
  • Coordination of daytoday activities to deliver improvement of technical KPIs
  • Closely monitor production and cleaning practices and standards and carry out corrective actions for noncompliances.
  • Ensure that all CCP's are understood, verified, and supporting documentation is audited.
  • Ensure CPs (check sheets, glass audit, calibration, etc.) are understood and supporting documentation is regularly audited.
  • Ensure that standard operating and cleaning procedures are correct and regularly reviewed.
  • Carry out established test procedures for quality control of products to a high degree of accuracy and repeatability.
  • Organise micro and chemical testing in keeping with our testing schedule.
  • Carrying out quality analysis of site cleaning with onsite testing equipment and compiling, analysing, and interpreting results.
  • Conduct Raw material and finished product quality checks and confirm compliance against specifications.
  • Daily collection and review of all production and QA documentation to ensure compliance with site QMS
  • Responsible for accurate documentation and record keeping, including labelling and traceability.
  • Ensure recipes have been adhered to and traceability of materials is maintained.
  • Undertake training and competency assessments.
  • Conduct basic food safety induction training for new staff.
  • Perform/oversee quality checks on incoming raw material and finished goods.
  • Communicate effectively within the management team and wider manufacturing team.
  • Maintain medical screening of visitors and staff.
  • Calibration of measurement equipment in accordance with schedules and procedures
  • Manage integrated Pest Control policy in conjunction with external company provider.
  • Support NPD trials and production launches, assisting in micro testing and product life assessment to ensure products are manufactured to the correct standard as necessary.
  • Prepare and facilitate taste panels in accordance with procedure ensuring that all results are accurately recorded and communicated to site.
  • Read UK/EU food legislations bulletin updates, communicate and update relevant parts of the QMS as needed.
  • Observe all company health and safety rules.
  • Safeguard Company Assets.
  • Where appropriate conduct any reasonable task as instructed by a company director.
