York Hospital's Emergency Department is a very busy department seeing in excess of 127,000 people per year - it operates 24 hours per day, serving a diverse community.

They are looking for Healthcare Support Workers to join their compassionate team.


As a Senior Healthcare Assistant, you will assist the Registered Nurses in the delivery of care to patients attending with privacy and dignity, providing a range of clinical skills to meet the needs of the patients attending the Emergency Department.


About theRole:
The role is varied, equally challenging and rewarding. You will have the opportunity to really make a difference to the experience of patients. Full time and part time posts will be considered, and shifts include long days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Our Senior HCSW's will need the flexibility to cover varied shift patterns.


You must have:


  • Previous NHS HCSW experience
  • Completed the Care Certificate
  • Good communication skills
  • Competent IT skills
  • A kind, caring and compassionate nature
  • The ability to provide excellent patient centred care
  • Providing direct patient care including meeting hygiene, continence, nutrition, pressure area care and mobility needs
  • Taking and recording patients' vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient's condition
  • Providing one to one observation for patients who present a high risk of harm and vulnerable patients
  • Escorting patients to different departments and transferring patients that need hospital admission to a ward, including management of patients' property
  • Keep the department and equipment clean, tidy and restocking equipment
  • Training and supporting new and junior team members
