We are thrilled to bring a fantastic new opportunity for a Tax Assistant to the market, for a leading Private Client Law Firm based in Central Edinburgh.

This is a full time, permanent, office based role with the opportunity for Hybrid working in the future.


What you'll do

  • Compile and finalise Personal, Trust and Estate Return forms
  • Offer guidance and support to Clients and Trustees regarding Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax affairs
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of tax returns to HMRC, covering individuals, trusts, estates and charities
  • Prepare and verify dividend schedules
  • Execute Capital Gains Tax computations
  • Manage and update Capital Gains Tax records alongside other documentation
  • Agree liabilities with HMRC within stipulated timeframes
  • Communicate tax payment and refund statuses to clients, overseeing their processing as required
  • Enhance the profitability of tax compliance endeavours by meticulously recording clientrelated time and executing tasks efficiently
  • Cultivate positive relationships with clients
  • Provide swift responses to inquiries and correspondence from clients, HMRC and other agents
  • Regularly review client files and records, ensuring they are current, including feerelated tax matters
  • Conduct annual reviews of client affairs to explore potential tax mitigation strategies and offer proactive advice
  • Promptly report significant issues to the Tax Services Senior/Manager
  • Coordinate with HMRC on diverse taxrelated matters
  • Stay abreast of tax legislation and regulations
  • Fulfil administrative responsibilities within the Tax Department
  • Assist fellow members of the Tax team as needed

What you'll need

  • Prior experience in a similar role, ideally within Professional Services
  • You will be proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong processing skills
  • Highly numeric
  • Accuracy and a keen eye for detail
  • Comfortable working as part of a team but also using your own initiative
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with a positive 'can do' attitude
  • The ability to attain objectives within agreed timescales and budgets
  • Solid organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a busy and demanding environment
