This is an exciting opportunity for a new role within the school.

The Pastoral Leader will be directly responsible to the Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes.


Core Purpose of the Post:

The role of the Pastoral Leader is to work closely with SLT to oversee students and be responsible for their welfare, attendance, attitude to learning and enjoyment of school.

Much of the work is self-generating, and the post holder will be expected to operate within established procedures and guidelines and to prioritise day-to-day work.

This is a full-time post starting at 8am until 4.30pm.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work alongside the Assistant HT on all matters relating to the pastoral care of students, with a particular focus on positive behaviour. To ensure that these are consistently implemented across the school and to demonstrate impact of these.
  • Become safeguarding trained and work alongside the safeguarding team to ensure students are safe in and beyond school.
  • To provide a welcome to students arriving early to school from 8am.
  • Investigate incidents occurring in a school context and reporting and recording the results of these.
  • Be highly visible on corridors both at student social times and during lessons to enable a promotion of good behaviour and be on hand to support good behaviour.
  • Work with teachers and students in order to develop a positive culture for learning within the school. This may involve supporting students back into lessons following suspensions.
  • Support strategies for individual students and prepare documentation such as PSPs, BIPs, LIFs and attend meetings where necessary and maintain students' individual paper and electronic files.
  • Providing in class behavioural support where required.
  • Support students who have been suspended or at risk of permanent exclusion.
  • Support the reintegration of those students who have been absent through e.g illness/exclusion.
  • Effective communication with parents /carers /outside agencies to offer support and personalised intervention strategies for students.
  • Liaise with staff in relation to any relevant pastoral issues, and work with them to affect positive outcomes for staff and students.
  • Inform relevant colleagues about social or behavioural issues or changes affecting students where appropriate.
  • Discuss behavioural incidents with students, parents and colleagues and relevant external agencies.
  • Monitor students on report and keep accurate records using the MIS for the school, identify and track trends and patterns of behaviour.
  • Monitor rewards and sanctions across school, celebrating success with individuals and through assemblies.
  • Support student personal and social development, Super Learning Days (SLDs). Be confident to deliver small group workshops on issues relating to issues relating to the RSE curriculum and catchup sessions relating to SLD themes.
  • Working with groups of students or mentoring individual students to support positive behaviour and attitudes to learning.
  • Work to establish positive relationships with all students and staff.
  • Contributing to the supervision of the isolation room when required.

Other Considerations:


  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection; being vigilant for signs that children may be being abused and to report any such suspicions to the school's nominated Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Headteacher.
  • To act in accordance with the Data Protection Act and maintain confidentiality at all times e.g. access to staff/student/parent and carers files.
  • Accept and commit to the principles underlying the Schools Equal Rights policies and practices.
  • Be able to perform all duties and tasks with reasonable adjustment, where appropriate, in accordance with the Equality Act.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in the UK.
