St.

George's Crypt is Christian Charity in the city of Leeds providing shelter and support and working with the homeless, the vulnerable and those suffering from addiction.

Our aim is to provide a safe environment with physical, emotional and religious support for those who suffered abuse, suffer from addition or who are homeless.


About Our Employees:


The twin objectives of St George's Crypt are to pursue the promotion of Christian evangelism and relieve hardship among disadvantaged people.

Therefore, it is key for the employees of the Crypt to be pursuing this throughout the whole of their job role and in their personal life.

This will usually be evidenced by current involvement in the life of a Christian community.


Job Purpose:


To generate income for the Charity by leading a team of volunteers in the running of one of the charities charity shop and promoting the aims of the charity to the local community.


Key Job Role Responsibilities and Main Tasks:
Ø Working towards a set budget selling donated items in the shop to generate income for the charity

Ø Actively source donated stock from the local community.

Ø Ensuring the highest standards of customer service are met at all times

Ø Deal sympathetically with and provide information to members of the pubic, where necessary directing those in need of further sources of help


Ø Manage the shop in the day to day operation, ensuring the highest standards of shop appearance are met, while ensuring that new stock is put on display frequently and stock is rotated to other shops within the charity when required.


Ø Assist the Head of Retail in ensuring the shop competes legally and effectively in the local market while continuing to serve the local community.

Ø Assist with the recruitment and induction of volunteers.

Ø Supervise all volunteers and provide ongoing training when required


Ø Monitor the performance of volunteers, drawing up a weekly volunteer rota to ensure the continuous operation of the shop.

Ø Provide cover for staff as necessary and as directed by the Head of Retail

Ø Assist in managing the upkeep and security of the premises and in emergency situations liaise with the Head of Infrastructure or Head of Retail for any emergency repairs

Ø Assist managing all Health & Safety issues in the shop in accordance with St George's Crypt policies and procedures

Ø Assist in managing the movement, security and accounting of cash in accordance with the St George's Crypt policies and procedures


Ø Assist in updating the Head of Retail's office on all aspects of shop operations, including, but not restricted to, property, security, health & safety, in accordance with St George's Crypt policies and procedures.


Ø Update the Head of Retail on all aspects of shop operations that occur while the Head of Retail is absent, including, but not restricted to, staff, property, security and health & safety.


Ø Ensure all administrative tasks required by St George's Crypt or delegated by the Head of Retail are completed correctly and on time.


Safeguarding Responsibilities:

Ø Enforcing the company's safeguarding policy.

Ø Being alert to and recognising welfare issues, being sure to challenge poor practice.

Ø Sharing appropriate information with relevant people.


Ø Continually working with the families of residents and service users, sharing information and contributing to plans if a concern is investigated.


Ø Ensuring that all staff having contact with children, vulnerable adults and/or their families have received appropriate training on safeguarding issues.

Ø To Understand and implement working practices set by the Safeguarding Adults and Children Board.

Ø To understand and implement working standards set by the domestic violence and abuse quality mark documentation.


Charity Wide Responsibilities:

Ø Participate in the daily prayer life of the Charity.


Ø Recognising the holistic needs of all service users and in accordance with the Trust Deed and affirm the spiritual needs of clients in their situations and either respond directly or refer as appropriate.


Ø As an expression of their Christian faith and commitment, it is hoped that all our employees are willing to be involved in the activities of the churches and organizations that support the work.

Ø To understand and implement working practices set by the Safeguarding Adults and Children Board.

Ø To understand and implement working standards set by the domestic violence and abuse quality mark documentation.


Ø Due to the nature of the role and the workplace, the post holder must be over 18 years of age.

Ø Attend training courses and conferences in order to maintain personal development as agreed with Line Manager.
