Key Purpose:


The Regional Listing Co-ordinator supports the Presiding Judges of the South Eastern Circuit and both the London and South East Regions and has a key role in managing the movement of work across the two Regions to ensure that the allocation of Class 1 and other serious work to appropriately ticketed Judges is maintained.

The Regional Listing Coordinator will identify cases at referral stage and will be responsible for managing the transfer of work to Judges identified by the Presiding Judges as appropriate for the allocation


Key Responsibilities:


Class One work

  • Advise Crime Presiding Judges on release and allocation of Class 1 and other high profile work across the Circuit.
  • Advise List Officers on the listing of class one work, ensuring the use of High Court Judges and itinerant Judges are maximised.
  • Monitor class one cases and high security work ensuring cases are effectively listed in a timely manner at appropriate venues by communicating in a succinct, engaging manner and standing ground when
  • Coordinate transfers as necessary.

High Court Judge cases

  • Manage the High Court itineraries to ensure that the business needs of the South Eastern Circuit are
  • Compile and submit High Court Judge term bids.
  • Compile and submit High Court Judge case specific bids.
  • Maintain and update overview spreadsheet.

Presiding Judge and Itinerant Murder Judges

  • Draft and oversee the four Presiding Judges' itineraries to ensure deployment in accordance with business needs: giving consideration to pastoral commitments.
  • Advise the lead Presiding Judge on cases that will be factored into the Presiding Judges itineraries and High Court Judge bids, recommending actions that ensure the efficient deployment of the Judiciary and therefore value for money.
  • Draft and oversee itinerant Judges' itineraries, including advising the Head of the Judicial Secretariat and Presiding Judges on itinerant judicial resource on Circuit.
  • Coordinate pretrial hearings before Presiding and Itinerant Judges.

Cat A and high security work

  • Oversee the management of high risk and CAT A defendants, ensuring that cases are tried at the most appropriate venue commensurate with the needs of the case and partner agencies and coordinate
  • Attend high security meetings with HMP and the Police where required.
  • Oversee risk assessment process with Metropolitan Police and advise Presiding Judges accordingly.

Deployment of firearms

  • Advise partner agencies and courts in relation to the management of high security cases.
  • Attend risk assessment meetings at new Scotland Yard where required.
  • Process requests for the deployment of firearms, consulting with the lead Presiding Judge and the Senior Presiding Judge.

Administrative support:


  • Actively promote a close working relationship between HMCTS and the Presiding Judges.
  • Support the team responsible for the daytoday deployment of Circuit Judges, and Recorders.
  • Provide support to list officers and to problem solve within London and the Southeast regions as required.
  • Coordinate and support the SE Circuit Cluster Workload meetings
  • Coordinate and support the SE Circuit List Officer meetings

Listing Coordination:


  • To work closely with the Senior Listing Officer at the Central Criminal Court to ensure that there is an optimum level of serious work at the Court. The Regional Listing Coordinator will have a key role in managing the movement of work across the two regions to ensure that the allocation of Class 1 or other serious and highprofile work to appropriately ticketed Judges is maintained via the Senior Listing Officer, the Recorder of London and the Presiding Judges.
  • Manage the provision of advice and intervention on listing coordination across both regions, to ensure that use of judicial resource and courtroom capacity is maximised and to anticipate and take steps to avoid workload/capacity pressures.
  • Engage and work directly with London and South East Region's Delivery Directors, Heads of Regional Support Unit (RSU), Heads of Crime, Head of Judicial Strategy and Change, Cluster and Court Managers to ensure that the needs of the business are anticipated and met in relation to the judicial deployment of salaried and fee paid judiciary.
