This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Women & Children's Directorate as a Clinical Fellow ST3+ in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Southend Hospital, part of the Mid and South Essex Hospital group.

Clinical Fellow ST3+ to join the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department.

The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department provides excellent care to all women within South East Essex and this includes the areas of Southend, Rochford, Rayleigh, Benfleet and Canvey Island.


As an employee of the Trust the doctor will work in close co-operation with all departments and other medical, professional and managerial colleagues to provide high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.

The junior medical team work on a shift system but have a named consultant on duty for the day/night. Wherever possible the timetable aims to provide continuity of junior medical staff,although there may be occasions where the On-Take commitment and the junior
doctor's requirement lead to alternative arrangements.

Multidisciplinary clinical audit sessions are held each month with presentations from medical
and midwifery staff on topics which are pre-determined in the annual Clinical Audit programme. Also held monthly are perinatal morbidity, perinatal mortality, ultrasound scan and histopathology meetings.

  • The doctor will be expected to show qualities of leadership but also to know their limitations and call for help and advice appropriately
  • Trainees will also begin to work independently
  • ST3 level doctor will be expected to gain the necessary competencies by rotating through the region in order to gain the relevant experience
  • Liaise between Midwives, nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff
  • Attend to the day to day management of day case, outpatient and inpatients
  • Attend and participate in ward rounds and operating theatre sessions as timetabled
  • Attend general and specialist outpatient, diagnostic and preassessment clinics
  • Teach medical students as directed
  • Supervise, monitor and assist the F2 doctors & ST12 in post take ward rounds as part of the rostered emergency work
