Post available to commence working in Paediatric Surgery, at ST 1-2 level on the middle grade rota.

The duty is a 2ndon call rota.


The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean, but the post holders will have the some teaching and training opportunities alongside four other Higher Specialist Trainees and four other Core Surgical Trainees.

Provisional interview date is scheduled for Tuesday 31st July.


The work of the Paediatric Surgical Unit encompasses the management of new-born infants and children with congenital malformations and other surgical conditions.

The Neonatal Surgical Unit is a Regional Centre dealing with over 150 new cases each year.

The pre-operative assessment, operative treatment and post-operative intensive care of these infants are of vital importance.

The general paediatric surgical work covers the wide variety of surgical conditions encountered in this age group including Urology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Thoracic surgery and Oncology all with an emphasis on Minimal access techniques.


The Children's Hospital is one of the foremost hospitals for children in the country and has developed an international reputation for the care and treatment of children.

Several Regional and Supra-Regional services are based at the Children's Hospital including Neonatal Surgery, Haemophilia, Phenylketonuria and Auxology.

Referrals are received from the Yorkshire and Humber Region and beyond for many of the rarer childhood disorders including Oncology, Spina Bifida, Neurology, Urology, and Gastroenterology.

The Critical Care Unit is open to children of all ages from all specialties within the Hospital and is next to the dedicated Regional Neonatal Surgical Unit.

Main responsibilities include

  • Resident oncall
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Supporting both nursing staff and consultants
  • Attending all inhouse training
