Finance Controller (Student)/Team Leader
SBU/Department: Academic Registry/Student Admin Service/Student Finance
FTE: 1.0 FTE (working 37 hours per week)
Duration of Contract: Permanent
Salary: UH6 £30,619 to £33,348 pa with potential to progress to £36,333 pro rata pa on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days which includes the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: University of Hertfordshire, mainly College Lane campus, with De Havilland campus- support- We are looking to appoint a driven and motivated Finance Controller to take an integral role in the Student Account Management (SAM) Team within Student Finance.

This is a varied position with the opportunity to contribute to new working practices and supporting students across both campuses.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • You will support the Head of Student Finance in the daytoday management of the SAM Team, to manage workflow within that team thereby ensuring cover for key tasks and availability for student queries. This role is particularly focused on the Tuition fees, but there will be a requirement to support and cover for the Finance Controller who has a focus on Accommodation fees.
  • You will monitor, recommend, and implement improvements to overall systems and procedures within Student Finance, with emphasis on the collection of tuition and accommodation fees. You will manage some staff within the team.
    Skills and experience
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate previous experience of revenue and cash procedures in dealing with collection. You will also have relevant experience with managing and distributing complex information, tailored advice and guidance to students or customers. Experience of working in Higher Education administration is desirable.
  • You will need to have the ability to organise your own and others' workload and to work effectively, accurately and calmly under pressure to meet deadlines. You'll have good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with and present to colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels. You will be required to communicate and support students clearly, demonstrating tolerance and sympathy while remaining focused on debt collection and student needs.
    Qualifications required
  • Minimum of a degree or equivalent level 6 qualification or have proven relevant professional work experience.
