Yard Operative to join our team located in Dundee.

Job Summary
As a Yard Operative for Altrad Generation, your role will be varied throughout the day.

This ranges from loading, unloading various materials, picking scaffold components from a pick list ensuring quantities are correct, checking off-hire components for damage and replacing back into stock.

You'll also be conducting regular checks on stock and machinery on the yard. Additionally, you'll assist customers on site whilst providing them with excellent customer service.

As a Yard Operative you provide support to the team with day-to-day requirements.

Responsibilities and duties
Responsible for the safe operation of the yard, stock control, maintenance including the servicing of equipment is carried out.

Ensure that all equipment within your scope of work is maintained to the highest standard.

Responsible for ensuring the operation of the yard stock control, transportation, and security.

Ensure that the housekeeping of the yard is to a high standard. Ensure correct storage of hazardous materials and equipment within suitable areas and that cleaning and hygiene materials are available.


Under no circumstances operate or allow others to operate, any machinery including forklift trucks, lorry mounted cranes and slings unless you/they have been trained and are in possession of a certificate of competence to operate these machines.

Responsible for ensuring that all stock movements are accurately and correctly documented in accordance with company policy and procedures.


Ensure that all equipment is painted in the company's security paint if the materials are intended for hire use and any labels or on hire stickers are positioned on the equipment.


Ensure that all customer queries are dealt with in a courteous, speedy and effective manner within the agreed time scales.

Load and unload vehicles promptly within the confines of safety, ensuring only serviceable equipment is loaded.

Use any safety equipment issued to you in the correct manner and for the correct purpose.


Ensure that all paperwork has been processed at the correct time to enable the branch's daily procedure to be undertaken without any problems that may result in unnecessary credits having to be raised.

Report any damages or any accident immediately or at the first opportunity to the Branch Manager.

Carry out specific projects as agreed from time to time and effectively implement Company policies and procedures.

Carry out any reasonable management instructions as instructed.

A minimum level of PPE that should be worn at ALL times, safety boots, Hi Vis vest and gloves.

When operating machinery such as saws then eye protection and ear defenders must be worn in addition as described in local risk assessments.


Have a due regard to Health & Safety and maintain responsibility around your working environment, other employees, customers and members of the public.


Person Specification

  • Previous customer experience working in a service yard environment
  • Team player
  • Hands on approach
  • Counterbalanced forklift licence
