We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced
Database Engineer to join Sovereign on a
Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

You'll be based from our head office in Basingstoke, combining home and office working to ensure a positive work / life balance.


The Role


As a
Database Engineer, you'll be responsible for the management, design, installation, monitoring, maintenance and performance tuning of production and test databases.


Main responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software
  • Being accountable for the support, maintenance, issue investigation and resolution, as well as documentation, of all the databases, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary
  • Responsibility for establishing the needs of users and monitoring of access and security
  • Accountability for ensuring that all backup and recovery processes are validated, understood, documented, and tested regularly
  • Performing routine database maintenance tasks, such as: available space checks, inspection of invalid objects and all alerts, checking of consistency, contention and performance issues and validating routine exports of data

What you'll need
You should have previous experience working as an IT Database Engineer or Database Administrator


You'll also need:

  • Experience of issue investigation and resolution
  • Ability to understand and create documentation for Microsoft and Cloud databases
  • Experience of backup and recovery processes, understanding how they are validated, understood, documented, and tested regularly whilst maintaining all data retention and archiving processes
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build credible stakeholder relationships
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritise multiple tasks
