Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher for 18 months to join the group of Dr Kanchon Dasmahapatra based in the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity, Department of Biology at the University of York.

The Dasmahapatra Group focuses on using genomic data to understand speciation and adaptation. This full time post is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).


Role:


This position is part of the NERC-funded project "The genetic basis of convergence across evolutionary time", the main aim of which is to study the genetic architecture of mimetic convergence across multiple Lepidopteran neotropical species making use of newly generated genome assemblies and multiple whole genome resequence datasets.

The project involves working with other members of the Dasmahapatra group and collaborators Nicola Nadeau (University of Sheffield), Marianne Elias (CNRS Paris, France), Caroline Bacquet (IKIAM, Ecuador), Camilo Salazar (Universidad del Rosario, Colombia), and the Joana Meier (Wellcome Sanger Institute).


Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:


We are looking for a person with advanced bioinformatics skills, including high levels of competency in genome analysis using data from high-throughput sequencing, population genomics, phylogenetics and demographic modelling.


  • A PhD in Evolutionary Biology or related area
  • Strong bioinformatics skills, particularly for the analysis of genomic data (Illumina and other highthroughput sequencing platforms)
  • Experience of analysis of lepidopteran genomes
  • Experience of carrying out phylogenomic analyses, GWAS, and analyses of gene flow
  • Comfortable with using R and Python, working on Linux, and using high performance compute clusters
