Functional Skills Tutor


Reports into Head of Quality & Operations

Ts&Cs:
Full Time, Monday - Friday


Hybrid:
Mostly remote with some travel to London and Chatham


The role of the Functional Skills Tutor is to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment relating to maths and English for apprentices requiring Functional Skills as part of their apprenticeship programme.

You will provide additional learning support for learners with a declared or identified additional learning support need; and provide teaching to account for reasonable adjustments and appropriate support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).


Purpose of the Role:


  • To be responsible for delivering Functional Skills, Level 1 and Level 2, in Maths and English
  • The Functional Skills Trainer will be responsible for ensuring that all learners requiring Functional Skills have a clear learning plan to achieve within the first 6 months of their apprenticeship.
  • To manage and maintain the Functional Skills timetable of activity to align with the framework for delivery.
  • To support the delivery team with their own embedding of maths and English within sector delivery. To provide delivery support to the wider delivery team during quieter periods for Functional Skills
  • Responsible for delivery of online workshops through the Functional Skills Academy.
  • To develop and enhance maths and English skills for all learners through the Functional Skills Academy online sessions and occasional facetoface where required (closed cohorts)
  • To create individual plans for learning and communicate these to the learners, ensuring prompt starts to the learning journey and timely completion of Functional Skills learning
  • Liaise with the admin team to communicate individual learning plans for Functional Skills and confirm bookings for relevant workshop activity
  • Liaise with Learning Consultants to support Functional Skills as part of resequencing plans for learners who have fallen behind or are returning to learning after a break
  • To support the delivery team with their own embedding of maths and English within sector delivery. To provide delivery support to the wider delivery team during quieter periods for Functional Skills

  • Work in partnership with Learning Consultants and employers to ensure that planning and delivery of Functional Skills is complementary and aligned to apprenticeship programme and that progress is communicated and recorded in the Bud system.
  • Record attendance of workshops and progress in the Bud system within 48 hours of every intervention
  • To design, create and source learning session materials for common topics and themes that complement the Skills Forward online learning
  • To teach in a way that accounts for reasonable adjustments and provides appropriate support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Support the demands of the department and business as needed.

Qualifications and experience:


Essential

  • English and Maths at minimum level 2 (GCSE A
  • C or equivalent or Functional Skills at level 2)
  • A passion for teaching English and maths and their benefits
  • Experience or understanding of the operation of Functional Skills within our sector, Hospitality
  • Evidence of discipline with/and meeting strict deadlines and targets
  • Working with a diverse client base and having a professional approach at all levels
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work and adapt within a changing environment
  • Experience in training/coaching/mentoring (remote and inperson)

Salary:
£27,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
