We are looking to recruit a motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within our friendly and supportive Occupational Therapy Orthopaedic Team.

They will be working with patients who have had Orthopaedic surgery for a wide range of conditions, both completed electively and as a result of trauma.


The post holder will be an integral part of the team, and as a band 4, once competencies have been established, completing both assessments and interventions with selected patients to facilitate their safe discharge home from hospital and part of a wider multi disciplinary team.

The role will include seeing patients both pre and post-operatively. They will also assist with the day to day running of the department.


The successful applicant will need to have good communication and organisational skills and have had experience of working within a health care setting; they will need to have had some experience of completing assessments and interventions with patients: experience of completing patient education would also be beneficial.

Some autonomous working as well as the ability to work as an integrated member of the multi disciplinary team will be an integral part of the post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Pre operative assessment which will involve gathering information about current functional abilities and home environments.

Pre and post operative education and practice of techniques with patients and where appropriate family carers on post operative precautions, and where appropriate issue of standard equipment.


The post holder will carry out interventions which support the patient with their Occupational Performance skills as identified by the Occupational therapist.

This may include supporting the patient to maintain or develop new skills or practice skills which support them to self manage their needs i.e.

mental and emotional wellbeing, cognitive, social, communication and physical skills.
