Due to an internal promotion we are now looking to engage a medical secretary with sound secretarial and excellent interpersonal skills to take on this varied post.

The successful applicant will become an integral part of an efficient and enthusiastic team providing an excellent secretarial and support service to the respiratory team at WHH.

This full-time role will keep you both challenged and busy as you work closely with colleagues to support the clinical team of Consultants, junior doctors and specialist nurses


Experience in the use of hospital-based IT systems well as an understanding of patient pathways would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.

Team based working in the General and specialist care Division.

Act as first point of contact on behalf of the Trust and deal effectively and courteously with all enquiries from GPs patients, and other departments within the Service and within the overall Trust.


Assess all enquiries, deal with effectively, and proactively manage these enquiries to ensure a safe and smooth pathway for all our patients not only from the team but from the overall complete service.

Prioritise workload, working on own initiative to ensure patients are seen in a timely fashion and in line with Trust policies in respect of the Access Targets.


Support the operational team in service developments to facilitate a reduction in the overall patient's journey and assist in the delivery of the 18 week admitted target but ultimately improve patient care.

Organise special investigations and procedures for patients as authorised both within the Trust and outside the Trust when these facilities do not exist within the Trust initiating IPPT forms as appropriate.
