SDL Biomass offers a unique and comprehensive service in the production and supply of renewable energy across the UK. The material created from our forestry, arboricultural and site clearance operations is used in our biomass facility, which not only puts energy back into the grid, but also generates the heat and energy needed to produce BSL, Woodsure, ENplusA1 accredited fuel wood made from local sawmill bi products. Distributed with our in-house HGV fleet, these wood pellets fuel houses, and businesses across the country.

Job Role


Manage the day to day operation and maintenance of a biomass CHP system, ensuring that equipment is working to its full capacity.


Working alongside a production team on a specialist wood pellet manufacturing line and bagging line to run both lines efficiently whilst maintaining high standards.

You will also be working with other departments to contribute to the effective running of the plant and business as a whole.

Night shift shift positions available.
Working on a 4 on

  • 4 off, shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and maintaining the upkeep of the boilers, dryer, ORC, the wood pellet line, bagging line and other machinery.
  • Relevant documentation to be kept up to date regarding cleaning the machines, maintenance records, compliance of the materials that we are producing and site safety.
  • Recording relevant data for heat production and electric production.
  • Recording stock levels.
  • Day to day running of the plant, pellet line and bagging operations.
  • Good housekeeping
- keeping the work environment clean and tidy

  • Comply with all health & safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate PPE when required including being clean shaven for face fit testing and regular use of RPE
  • Servicing boilers and pellet line, producing reports for clients and maintaining a service schedule.
  • Helping with installations
  • Duties will also include anything else that may be required by the management team.

Qualifications:


  • Good understanding of machine operation and maintenance with recognised mechanical or electrical qualification.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • An understanding of heating systems and associated pumps, valves, safety requirements.
  • Experience of biomass systems and combustion controls is a distinct advantage.
  • Electrical fault finding to board/component level.
  • Mechanical fault finding and repair.
  • Basic plumbing/pipefitting (fitting minor components such as gauges, sensor pockets, valve body, safety valves).
  • Panel wiring.


  • IT skills

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Experience in using a fixed mast forklift and a telehandler.
  • Experience in operating Scada systems.
