Description

Early intervention is a key component in Apex Scotland's delivery of effective and time appropriate services with young people experiencing difficulties in and outside of the school setting.

Using the key pillars of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC), our knowledge of trauma informed practice and the importance divergent thinking plays in building confidence, our innovative practice supports national policies and local strategy to ensure young people have equal access to opportunities and positive experiences, regardless of their social context or personal needs.

We engage with young people, across a variety of settings, to support engagement with learning.

This includes a number of different types of intervention, our first level of support (Re:
Set) targets those who are fully attending education but may have barriers to learning such as low-confidence/events outside of school impacting on emotional stability and so staff support this cohort in school through bespoke 1:1 wellbeing sessions.

Our secondary level of intervention (Re:
Engage) promotes the facilitation of collaboration and group work for young people on adapted timetables to access experiential hands on learning; this project style work captures progress for pupils working towards a range of wider achievement awards.

Our third and final intervention (Re:
Build) is tailored around 1:1 outreach work within communities to bridge learning for young people who are not currently engaging in any educational provision but still enrolled at a mainstream school.

Building on the success of our work within secondary schools across Scotland to date, we are currently in a new phase with plans to pilot a transition model working in both primary and secondary settings for a potential roll-out in Clackmannanshire.

From August 2023 we will be working in partnership with Lornshill Academy, Banchory Primary School, and Alva Primary School.

Through our partnership approach we aim to improve the life chances of disadvantaged young people, improve wellbeing, and reduce the number of exclusions and progressions to third tier support.

These outcomes will be met whilst demonstrating what can be achieved with a varied curriculum that values experiential learning, teamwork, enterprise, and creativity.

This initiative is funded to work alongside the schools to equip pupils with motivation and skills; raise aspiration; improve relationships and increase attainment and attendance.

For this post you will have experience of working with young people and be able to develop and deliver a training programme that identifies and meets the needs of individuals.

Experience of delivering group work and one to ones to young people overcoming barriers are essential for supporting participants to achieve their potential.

A driving licence and willingness to transport young people in your own car is essential.

Due to the nature of our service and to ensure consistency, all annual leave must be taken outside of term time.

This service is currently funded until June 2024 and we are hopeful of extension.
