Job Purpose


You will provide academic leadership, alongside the Director of My Medic LDU, in the development of the service within the Cardiff University School of Medicine for students across Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes, in addition to supporting students who contact the service.

Teaching

  • Supporting the My MEDIC Director and working with senior staff within the Centre for Medical Education the role holder will:
  • Lead the evaluation and continuous improvement of developing a learning support unit for all students studying on the MBBCh programme.
  • Development of curricular content aligned to the aims of My MEDIC Learning Development Unit.
  • Collaborate with others to develop activities within the My MEDIC Learning Development Unit with a focus on evidencebased service development and continuous improvement.
  • Working with teams across the Centre for Medical Education to ensure progression of student learning through the programme.
  • Ensuring the academic components meet or exceed the requirements of the University and PSRB regulators (eg General Medical Council).
  • Develop teaching activities and new programmes related to own specialist area/s and integrate with the requirements/mission of the taught programmes in the School of Medicine.
  • Provide pastoral care and academic support by acting as a Personal Tutor for MBBCh students.

Scholarship

  • Contribute to scholarship and research in Higher Education through participation in conferences, seminars, and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship.
  • Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work.
  • Contribute to scholarship through interdisciplinary working with individuals and teams within, and external to, the wider university community.
  • Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with MBBCh & BSc programmes, including administration and participation in associatedcommittee work.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications, Education & Academic Position

  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register / GDC Specialist list
  • 2. Academic and / or professional qualifications and experience which reflect the nature of the appointment and the area of the curriculum (Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (PgCUTL) or equivalent qualification or evidence (e.g. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, Academy of Medical Educators or similarly recognised professional educator body).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level, demonstrating teaching innovation in course development and design.
  • 4. Experience of managerial responsibilities, including experience of dealing with challenging situations affecting students and academic staff
  • 5. Evidence of teaching and supervising students in a clinical environment
  • 6. A reputation for teaching excellence, educational innovation and learner empowerment, within the fields of science and medicine

  • Excellent communication team working and IT skills, to include the ability to motivate, direct and enthuse colleagues; to present complex and conceptual topics clearly and confidently to others, using high level skills and a range of media
