Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT) is a service transformation programme led by NHS England.

Our courses are funded by Health Education England and trainees are staff from the NHS, Local Authority and voluntary organisations who are part of the CYP IAPT collaboration.

Our exciting, new Postgraduate Diploma Senior Wellbeing Practitioner (SWP) programme will be delivered part-time over a two-year duration and will begin in January 2023.

The SWP programme aims to offer a career pathway for current Child Wellbeing Practitioners (CWP) and Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP) to develop into more senior roles within their services.

The delivery will be a mixed-mode, including both online/remote and some in-person teaching.

The aim is to extend practitioners' clinical skillset by providing specialist training in a broader range of presentations, as well as supervisor training for low-intensity interventions, and the programme comprises of four modules (please view the Job Profiles for module descriptions).


We are recruiting for a Course Tutor for the SWP programme team, who will join the Workforce Development Programmes pathway within our continually growing Postgraduate Studies Department in our Education and Training Division.


In the first instance, the Course Tutor will lead on Module 3 and Module 4 (summarised below). As this is a new programme, content is being developed and additional time allocation has been factored in for preparation in the first academic year.

Therefore, duties attached to this role will be extended in the second year of delivery to support Year 2 of the course, as well as potential to support other workforce development programmes.


Module 3:

_Enhanced Practice in _Early Intervention_, aims to expand the scope and breadth of the conditions that CWPs and EMHPs can work with.

Specifically, practitioners will develop an understanding of, and interventions for, advanced anxiety presentations such as OCD, Social Anxiety; Trauma-Informed practice principles and approaches as well as other difficulties such as those relating to school attendance.


Module 4:

_Adapting Low Intensity Practice with CYP (and families) with neurodiversity including ASC/LD_, will help practitioners develop an understanding of the core features of autism spectrum conditions and learning disabilities (ASC/LD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and associated conditions.

They will acquire knowledge of relevant legislation, social models of disability and practice as well as learn to deliver effective low intensity interventions with this client group.


The SWP programme is a fantastic development for the low-intensity workforce and the goal is to provide high-quality, evidence-informed teaching.

It is an exciting time to join the newly forming SWP programme team, as the Course Tutors will play a key role in the development and shaping of the programme.

In addition, there will be opportunities to work across various workforce development programmes at the Centre.

As the team and programme develops, there may also be potential for a Deputy Programme Director position to become available in due course.
