Research Associate

  • NIHR Blood and Transplant Research Unit in Organ Donation and Transplantation (fixed term)


We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated research associate to join our research team, led by Professor Michael Nicholson, in the University of Cambridge Department of Surgery.

The post will be funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research Blood and Transplant Research Unit in Organ Donation and Transplantation (NIHR BTRU in ODT) and based at Addenbrooke's Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.


The focus of this post will be kidney perfusion research, focusing primarily on the use of novel perfusion technologies to investigate the enzymatic conversion of blood group A and B kidneys to O-type.

The post-holder will carry out his/her own research and support PhD students and researchers within the laboratory and clinical programmes.


Fixed-term: The funds for this post are for 12 months in the first instance and the proposed start date is 1 April 2024.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.

Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD.

Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5, Point 38 £31,411) moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of your PhD award.
