Job Title:
CNC Programmer / Operator

Key purpose of the job:

Working as part of an integrated D&M team responsible for producing high-value 1-off wind tunnel model components to quality, time and budget, in accordance with Project manufacturing tolerances and schedules.

Primary responsibilities include off-line CNC milling(3 and 5 axis) programming using Delcam, Powermill and Powershape (importing geometry, modelling supports/fixtures, establishing tooling and clamping sequences, creating optimum cutter paths, determining speeds and feeds, posting programs).

Secondary responsibilitiesinclude on-line programming, setting and operating CNC machines (3, 4 and 5 axis) using Heidenhein.

The Role:

Complete offline CNC programming using Delcam Powermill and Powershape, complete online programming using Heidenhein and CNC machine operation ensuring best use of asset capability, minimise material waste and maximise efficiency
Ensure regular communication and coordination with CNC Section Team Leader, CNC Technical Lead and other MMC teams to ensure understanding of progress with CNC parts, in particular required quality and delivery dates for the completion of CNC operations
Ensure that the minimum direct (project) booking requirement is achieved (see above), using correct project booking codes for work completed
Operate multiple machines when required
If handover of the work is required, ensure this it carried out effectively and that adequate notes and technical advice are available
Make recommendations on observations for process improvement techniques and hardware operation
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required within the grade and level of the post
Comply with Quality Standards and be an advocate for Continuous Improvement
Comply with Health and Safety and Environmental procedures
Comply with Site Security procedures

The Person:

Proficient writing offline milling programmes using Delcam PowerMill and PowerShape (2018 and Must have knowledge of: Importing of geometry, Modelling of supports/fixtures, establishing tooling and clamping sequences, creating optimum cutter paths,determining optimal speeds and feeds, Posting programs to vertical milling machines, extension of geometry lines
Proficient and experienced CNC Setter / Operator
Fully conversant with Heidenhein controls
Experience of tightly toleranced bespoke component manufacture
A team player, confident and capable of mentoring and coaching less experienced CNC Programming/Setter/Operating staff.
Flexible and positive attitude, willing to go the extra mile to ensure that project manufacturing schedules are met or exceeded.
Selfmotivated and keen attention to detail, in terms of quality of work produced and adherence to project schedules
Drive and commitment; cando attitude to overcoming technical problems as soon as they arise
