The Theatres team is seeking to appoint a Deputy Team Leader on a 9-month fixed-term contract (to cover maternity leave).
You should be a senior operating department practitioner or nurse, and you will be part of a talented team dedicated to delivering excellent care.
You will participate in all aspects of clinical operating department work, specifically within emergency and vascular surgery.- Leadership skills, including managing a team, sickness and annual leave management
- Liaising with procurement and budget management
- Leading difficult conversations
- Recruitment, interviewing and staff development
- Service improvements including list efficiency
- Delivering high quality effective, individualised care to all patients
- Communicating effectively at all times and taking an active role in liaising with all disciplines
interventional radiology suite delivering a wide range of vascular surgery.

Education and Professional Development
- The department has a dedicated Theatre Practice Development Nurse to coordinate the educational needs of all staff. We offer preceptorship, competency based assessments, post registration courses, speciality workshops, seminar presentations to name a few. The Trust and department is committed to developing future leaders and offers an extensive range of leadership courses which staff are supported to attend.
- Princess Alexandra Hospital is one of 6 hospitals in the country providing Intra Operative Radiotherapy Treatment for patients with breast cancer.
Work and live in Harlow
- Only a 30 minute direct train journey to London, Cambridge and Stansted Airport. Harlow and the surrounding towns have a wide range of shopping, recreation and leisure facilities plus great local family days out.
- To be a professional role model, leading and coordinating the theatre and department team. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities for vascular/emergency surgery.
- To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for the team, theatre/department and Trust wide.
- Provide specialist Perioperative advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
- To be able to scrub/supervise for Vascular and emergency surgical procedures
- At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
- To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
- To support the Team Manager in delivering the needs of the team/service
- Maintain and promote effective communication with team and all members
