The Theatres team is seeking to appoint a Deputy Team Leader on a 9-month fixed-term contract (to cover maternity leave).

You should be a senior operating department practitioner or nurse, and you will be part of a talented team dedicated to delivering excellent care.

You will participate in all aspects of clinical operating department work, specifically within emergency and vascular surgery.

  • Leadership skills, including managing a team, sickness and annual leave management
  • Liaising with procurement and budget management
  • Leading difficult conversations
  • Recruitment, interviewing and staff development
  • Service improvements including list efficiency
  • Delivering high quality effective, individualised care to all patients
  • Communicating effectively at all times and taking an active role in liaising with all disciplines
Work within a theatre service of 11 operating theatres and an additional
interventional radiology suite delivering a wide range of vascular surgery.

Work and live in Harlow

  • Only a 30 minute direct train journey to London, Cambridge and Stansted Airport. Harlow and the surrounding towns have a wide range of shopping, recreation and leisure facilities plus great local family days out.
  • To be a professional role model, leading and coordinating the theatre and department team. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities for vascular/emergency surgery.
  • To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for the team, theatre/department and Trust wide.
  • Provide specialist Perioperative advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
  • To be able to scrub/supervise for Vascular and emergency surgical procedures
  • At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
  • To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.
  • To support the Team Manager in delivering the needs of the team/service
  • Maintain and promote effective communication with team and all members
- of the multi-disciplinary team and other departments. Communication will take place using formal and informal methods, including formal presentation of information relating to your Theatre/department.
