The Drayton Surgery are looking for an experienced medical coder and administrator to join our busy Admin team in our fast paced GP Surgery in Portsmouth.


The Drayton Surgery is an 23,000 patient surgery in North Portsmouth and is the lead surgery in Portsmouth North Primary Care Network.


Joining our busy Admin team, you will be responsible for the coding of letters coming in to the Surgery from secondary care as well as reacting to any of the requirements for further investigation and passing on to the relevant department.


The working pattern for this role will be Monday - Friday and will involve working until The rate of pay is fixed at £10.42 per hour.


The purpose of the role is to:
Process and accurately code incoming patient letters


Undertake a variety of administrative duties and assist with data entry, including the recording of information in patients medical records to enable to practice to meet its obligations and targets.


Duties and Responsibilities:


The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the administration team may include any or all of the items in the following list.

Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Operations Manager, dependant on current and evolving workloads and staffing levels:


  • Scanning of incoming correspondence as and when required
  • Producing letters and reports as directed by the team manager
  • Coding of data in accordance with protocols
  • Assisting in the production of audits and reports
  • Taking messages and passing on information accurately
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork both electronically and in paper format
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with defined procedures
  • Assisting the clinical staff with data entry at clinic sessions if required

  • In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the postholder will have access to confidential information relating to patients. They may also have access to information relating to the business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
  • Information relating to patients, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the company policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
