GLL is looking for a Community Sport Officer to work across our leisure and sport facilities in Newham.

The primary role of a Community Sport Officer is to work as part of a team to engage with communities to increase their participation in sport and leisure based activities, reducing inequalities and improving their physical health and mental wellbeing.

The Community Sport Officer is a unique and exciting role that will contribute towards delivering a comprehensive Sports Development and Community Engagement plan for our sport and leisure facilities across Camden which considers the following principles;

  • Participation: Grow participation in GLL's services and engage new audiences.
  • Transforming Communities: Empower and invest in our communities to create sustainable change and impact.
  • Access & Inclusion: Ensure GLL's services are accessible to all our communities, providing additional support for those experiencing inequalities.
  • Inform & Inspire: Raise awareness of the benefits of GLL's services, healthy lifestyles, and inspiring our communities.


The post will work with partners, communities and leisure centre teams to establish pathways of opportunities for individuals and communities to achieve their potential, through using physical activity and sport to tackle cross cutting issues such as health improvement and community development.

The role will work with the leisure centres to ensure:


  • Policies and systems are in place that support our customers and colleague's health & wellbeing and ensure equality
  • A choice of products are available, tailored to meet the needs of all audience types
  • Products and services that are accessible at the right time, place and price
  • Stakeholders and communities co

  • Audiences & stakeholders are engaged, reinforcing GLL's position as the leading charitable social enterprise in the leisure sector
  • Investing in our people, local communities and volunteers to meet local needs


You will be dealing with a range of people as diverse as school children, the elderly, religious and ethnic groups, so you will need to have excellent communication skills to be able to relate to each type of person.

Ideally you will be degree level qualified and have experience in planning and leading community, health or sport based activities and programmes.

You will be comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels and adept at giving presentations.

A creative thinker, you will thrive on devising new initiatives to work with the community to foster their participation in leisure activities.
