What is the West London Alliance?

The West London Alliance (WLA) is a collaboration between the 7 West London Boroughs of Ealing, Brent, Barnet, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Harrow and Hammersmith & Fulham.

We work together to improve outcomes for residents across the sub-region.

Net Zero in West London

The west London boroughs have all declared climate emergencies and have ambitious targets and timeframes to realise net zero, both within their own organisations and across their boroughs by 2030.

Net zero is a growing area for collaboration across west London:

the boroughs have formed a Climate Emergency Officers Group and the West London Environment Directors meet regularly to pool knowledge and resources.

A particular collective challenge relates to the energy supply constraints facing West London, which have a direct impact on our long-term goals, both on net zero and in terms of the wider West London economy.

We are working closely with the Greater London Authority on the second phase of our Local Area Energy Plan, and this will be a key area of focus for this role.

Other common areas of interest include joint work on the circular economy, sustainable finance and funding, heat networks, retrofitting and much more.

We need to identify where joint working can add most value, develop effective plans with the right stakeholders and deliver these plans in a way that brings our communities with us.

The Role

This is an exciting time to join the WLA, where you will have the opportunity to shape how West London addresses the challenges and opportunities of net zero and the green economy.

Based in the Economy team and reporting to the WLA Lead on Net Zero, Infrastructure and Transport, you will be expected to work closely and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including borough officers and councillors, businesses and technical specialists and more in order to define and take forward our joint work.

You will be familiar with and have a genuine interest in policy issues around climate and energy, energy supply and the circular economy, and experience of successfully attracting funding.

You will be enthusiastic, organised and motivated, with strong skills in written and verbal communications, data and analysis and problem-solving, and be flexible, adaptable and comfortable with working in a fast-paced, political environment.
