The Clinical Lead for Perinatal & Infant Mental Health is a new exciting role within Growing Healthy Wakefield 0-19 Service as part of the Family Hubs and Start for Life National programme.


The role will provide clinical leadership, programmes of training and staff development to ensure an efficient, effective and high-quality provision for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (PIMH) support throughout Wakefield District.

Acting as a role model and a source of first line information for Health Visitors and Family Hub team members in relation to PIMH.


The post holder will promote PIMH within community services and support frontline professionals in the development of strategies in Wakefield for the continued support of PIMH in the future.


The post holder will lead and contribute to regular audit and research activities into the experiences of service users and service providers, helping inform key stakeholders and shape future policy and decision-making processes around PIMH in Wakefield.

To provide evidence based Perinatal & Infant Mental Health clinical expertise, leadership and support to colleagues.


To Provide clinical expertise to meet the needs of the families in relation to parental mental health, parent infant relationships and infant and young children's development.

To deliver direct care to families using recognised assessment and observation techniques.


Act as an advocate for parents and their infants with perinatal mental health difficulties to ensure they receive active and effective care.


Develop, disseminate, implement appropriate policies, procedures, and care pathways for women and families experiencing mild, moderate and severe mental health problems in active collaboration with colleagues and partners using Local and National Guidance.

Develop, organise, deliver and evaluate PIMH training across the workforce in line with role specific mandatory training.


Identify areas for research, audit and development and participate in research and clinical audit in relation to PIMH locally, analysing the information gathered and provide written reports to Service Managers.

Contribute to the development, implementation and review of the PIMH strategy.


To work in collaboration with the leadership team and key stakeholders/partners to support services in delivery to children, young people and their families.

The post will have management responsibility for staff.
